Titanium 3D Printing Powders Have Been Used In Aerospace

The quality of metal additive manufacturing parts is closely related to the properties of metal powders, including particle size, sphericity, flowability, and bulk density. The demand for "high precision", "high quality" and "ultra-precision" applications in aerospace, aviation, and medical fields also places higher demands on the quality of metal 3D printing powders. Based on in-depth market observation and long-term metal additive manufacturing practice, a variety of titanium and titanium alloy powders, such as GR1, GR5, etc., are now successfully used in aerospace and other additive manufacturing fields.

GR5 excellent comprehensive mechanical properties can meet the aero-engine demand for powder performance, its high specific strength, lightweight and other characteristics to provide support for blade weight reduction; powder has high thermal stability and oxidation resistance, can extend the blade life and inspection interval; at the same time, the internal hollow structure of the parts, design space, can achieve a more diverse shape, to meet the needs of a variety of scenarios use.

GR5 is a titanium alloy widely used in aerospace and medical applications, and the resulting parts have a uniform and dense microstructure with fast solidification characteristics when formed by selective laser melting (SLM) additive manufacturing equipment. The tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation of the printed parts are about 6-7%, 6-10%, and 55-60% higher than those of the forged parts respectively. The antenna support structure has been topologically optimized and integrated to achieve a 35% weight reduction compared to conventionally machined parts, stress concentration is relieved and peak stress response is reduced by 6%. The high internal dimensional accuracy of the part and the high specific strength and medium high-temperature mechanical properties of Ti-6.5Al-1Mo-1V-2Zr titanium alloy provide the part with good load-bearing and stress-bearing capabilities, meeting the requirements of safety-critical applications such as aerospace.

Ti-6.5Al-1Mo-1V-2Zr is a high-temperature titanium alloy with room temperature mechanical properties slightly higher than GR5 and medium high-temperature mechanical properties, mainly used for printing and forming of aerospace structural parts and engine components. 1000mm.
