Material and Grade: R60001 is a high-purity zirconium (nuclear-grade sponge zirconium). It typically requires a combined zirconium and hafnium ($Zr + Hf$) purity of over 99.5% and imposes extremely strict upper limits on impurity elements that affect the thermal neutron absorption cross-section (such as boron, cadmium, and hafnium).
Specifications and Processing: These are 1mm-thick sheets produced by melting high-purity sponge zirconium into ingots via multiple passes in a vacuum arc remelting (VAR) furnace, followed by hot rolling, cold rolling, and rigorous protective annealing processes. The surface finish is typically bright—either cold-rolled and pickled or polished.
