characteristic:

Melting & Casting Process

Ingots for making bars and forgings should be smelted in vacuum consumable arc furnaces more than twice. Select grade 0~2 small particle sponge titanium with oxygen content not more than 0.08%, Al~Mo master alloy with a molybdenum content of 50%, Al-Si master alloy with a silicon content of 10%, and industrial-grade iron wire or iron particles.

 

Superplastic properties:

The BT3-1 alloy has excellent superplastic properties, and the elongation after fracture of the material with a fine equiaxed structure at 900 ℃ is greater than 900%.

 

Welding performance:

BT3-1 alloy can be applied to welded structures, generally using argon tungsten arc welding and electron beam welding. However, since the alloy is a highly alloyed α-β type titanium alloy, it has a large reaction to the thermal cycle during welding, so the welding seam and its adjacent areas may have unfavorable changes in structure and properties, and special heat treatment is required to eliminate or reduce the influence of such changes.

 

Machining & Grinding Performance

Processing performance:

Cutting performance: BT3-1 titanium alloy rod has high hardness and strength in cutting, so it is necessary to use suitable cutting tools and cutting parameters. It is usually necessary to use high-speed cutting tools, such as carbide tools, and use appropriate cooling lubricants to reduce the cutting temperature.

 

Forgeability: BT3-1 titanium alloy rod has good forgeability, and its shape and size can be changed by heat treatment and cold working. After heating to the appropriate temperature, processes such as forging, extrusion and rolling can be performed to achieve the desired shape and properties.

Grinding performance:

 

Hardness: 

BT3-1 titanium alloy rod has high hardness, so it is necessary to use abrasives and abrasive tools with appropriate hardness during the grinding process. Ordinary grinding wheels may not be efficient enough, and superabrasives such as diamond or cubic boron nitride can be used as an option.

 

Heat sensitivity: BT3-1 titanium alloy rod has low thermal conductivity, which is easy to generate high temperature during the grinding process, resulting in a decrease in the surface quality of the workpiece. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to reducing the cutting temperature during the grinding process, and use appropriate cooling and lubrication methods, such as hydraulic oil or cutting fluid for cooling.

 

Surface quality: Due to the high hardness and heat sensitivity of BT3-1 titanium alloy rod, the surface after grinding is prone to scratches and burns. Therefore, it is necessary to select appropriate grinding parameters, such as appropriate grinding speed, feed rate and depth of cut, in order to obtain better surface quality.
